The Seed of YiQi: A Story of Roots and Vitality
It began not in a boardroom, but in a quiet garden behind a small clinic. A group of us—friends and fellow practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine—would often gather there after a long day. We would share tea and talk about our patients.
We saw the young professional, barely in their 20s, burned out and anxious. We saw the vibrant 70-year-old who wanted the energy to play with their grandchildren. We saw the athlete looking for that final edge, and the new mother struggling to find her center again.
We had the tools. Acupuncture to move the Qi, herbal knowledge to nourish the blood, and dietary wisdom to build a strong foundation. Yet, we felt we were only offering pieces of a larger puzzle.
One afternoon, Master Chen, a Tai-Chi practitioner who used the garden, joined us. He moved with a grace that defied his 80 years, his energy as calm and powerful as a deep river. "You treat the blockage," he said, gesturing to our acupuncture needles, "but what about the flow of the river itself?"
That was the moment the seed of our dream was planted.
We realized that true, lasting health isn't just about fixing what's broken. It's about cultivating the garden itself. It's about building a body so resilient that illness finds no place to take root. This is the essence of YiQi—the beneficial energy, the vital Qi, that flows within every healthy body.
We envisioned a place where a 10-year-old could build the habits for a lifetime of vitality, and an 80-year-old could unlock the strength and balance they hold within. A place where holistic wellness isn't just a word, but a living, breathing practice. To achieve this, we knew we couldn't work in silos. We needed true collaboration.
And so, YiQi Medical Group was formed. The name reflects our dual purpose: it represents the beneficial energy we seek to cultivate in our patients, and it beautifully rhymes with the spirit of collaboration with the experts in our field.
We brought together TCM doctors, registered dieticians, and Tai-Chi masters into a single, united team. Now, when a patient comes to us, they don't just get a treatment. They get a partnership. We work together to design a path that uses the precision of acupuncture, the nourishment of dietetics, and the flowing power of Tai-Chi exercises.
Our mission is simple yet profound: to help you elevate your body to its maximum potential, at any age. At YiQi, we believe that your best health isn't a distant memory or a future hope—it is a state of being we can cultivate together, starting today.

Our Team
YiQi Medical Group began with Dr. Amy Wang’s epiphany during her internship at the Hanoi Medical University Hospital in Hanoi, Vietnam when she witnessed a remarkable integration of Chinese medicine and Western medicine. She observed patients actively choose their preferred department, while doctors from both disciplines collaborated seamlessly with mutual respect for the other’s medical expertise.
Dr. Wang noticed this synergistic and patient-centered model was thriving in a developing nation, which starkly contrasted with the limiting healthcare system she witnessed in the US. Inspired by the more integrated model, Dr. Wang returned with a desire to bridge this gap and create a similar model in her own community. She envisioned a clinic where individuals could explore the vast potential of Chinese medicine, understanding that true healthcare extends beyond pharmaceuticals.
Dr. Wang connected with Dr. Kate Chen and Kevin Yen, who shared the same aspiration. Together, they founded YiQi Medical Group, as three Asian American acupuncturists united in their mission to share the wisdom of Chinese medicine with the world.
Our clinic name YiQi, meaning “coming together” in Mandarin, embodies our collaborative spirit.
